Swaraj is one of the fundamental philosophies of Gandhiji. For Gandhi, ‘Swaraj is a state of being of individuals and nation’. The concept of Swaraj generally means ‘Self- Rule’ connected with the notion of self-determination in a polity comprised of several distinct subjects/sectors.

Swaraj’ represents a genuine attempt to regain control of the self – our self-respect, self-responsibility and capacities for self-realization – from institutions of dehumanization. Gandhi said, “The ‘Swaraj’ of my dreams is the poor man’s ‘Swaraj’. Swaraj also means freedom from bondage of any kind.

Therefore, Gandhian Collective India earnestly believes that in a vast pluralistic country like ours, there must be room for all schools of honest thought. And the least, therefore, that we owe to ourselves, as to others, is to try to accommodate the oppositions viewpoint and, if we cannot accept it, respect is as fully as we expect him to respect ours. It is one of the indispensable tests of a healthy democracy and, therefore, fitness for ‘Swaraj’.
